The Melissa Peplum is derived from a dress pattern by Ottobre. It is an easy pattern with bust and waist darts to give it shape. It is unlined and has an invisible zipper. The peplum design was derived from another design pattern which I manipulated by slashing and spreading the skirt pattern panel.

The slash and spread method is a fashion pattern technique in which you take a pattern piece, cut or slash it open, and then spread it apart to add fullness. It is also a technique to close or reduce fullness, but it is often used for the former.

Suggested fabric: viscose blend jacquard.

My fabric: Chitenge fabric 100% cotton.

Garment Construction

Consists of one front pattern panel cut on the fold, two back panels which I joined with an invisible zipper.

Difficulty: intermediate level sewing.

Thank you, stay safe and motivated!
